Aaron Coolman serves as the Motus Technical Coordinator and Avian Ecologist at Willistown Conservation Trust (WCT), where he has been working since the fall of 2021. With a Bachelor's degree in Plant Science from Ohio State University, Aaron brings a diverse background to his role, including experience in residential garden design and previous work as a USFWS Biotechnician and Wildlands Firefighter. As an avid birdwatcher, conservationist, and wildlife photographer, Aaron's passions are evident as his professional and personal interests often intersect symbiotically. This devotion translates directly into WCT's organizational mission, where he leads various projects such as the popular Avian Adventures with Aaron series, annual Woodcock Walks, and American Kestrel banding demonstrations at local grassland preserves. In addition to leading the technical aspects of WCT's internationally renowned Motus network, Aaron is an integral member of the bird banding station and field research crew.
Currently, Aaron is pursuing a Master's degree in Wildlife Ecology at the University of Delaware under Dr. Jeffrey Buler, refining his interests and knowledge in raptor-focused ornithology. This academic pursuit complements his applied work- Aaron's unique combination of educational background, field experience, and genuine passion for wildlife conservation makes him a valuable asset to Willistown Conservation Trust, where he continues to make significant contributions to their mission in preserving open land, rural character, and protecting local ecosystems found within and beyond Willistown.
