Stewardship Volunteer Thursday

Willistown Conservation Trust maintains 3 public preserves, and with so much beautiful habitat, we need some help keeping these conserved lands looking their best for all visitors and ensuring they continue to provide healthy habitats for the many species that depend on them.

The Stewardship Team hosts weekly volunteer work sessions running from 9 am to 12 pm and tasks will include:

-Cutting/removing invasive plants
-Clearing vines from trees and tree cages
-Planting native trees and shrubs
-Pruning trees and shrubs
-Trail clean-up and maintenance
-Stream clean-up

WCT will provide the necessary tools. But if you have any of the following tools, you are welcome to bring them along. Please ensure any tools are prominently marked with your name and phone number. We cannot be responsible for personal tools that may be lost or stolen.

-Hand pruners
-Soil knife
-Trowel
-Hand saw

You can come for the whole session or as long as you’re able. Send an email to mjc@wctrust.org to let us know you are coming!

About Mike Cranney | Preserve and Facilities Manager

After joining us in 2020, Mike quickly got to work managing the Trust’s many acres found across our public preserves: Ashbridge Preserve, Kirkwood Preserve, and Rushton Woods Preserve. Thanks to his Masters in Environmental Studies from the University of Pennsylvania and a background in gardening at Morris Arboretum, he has passed on his passion for stewardship to our many volunteers and assisted with monitoring the Trust’s Conservation Easements held on private properties. When he’s not on the mower or trimming tree limbs, you can find Mike going to the movies or watching Philly sports teams.
