Spring Regeneration with Rushton Farm
In this experience, we’ll get to hear from our talented farm team about what it’s like to work on a farm within a nature preserve. We’ll learn about some of the concepts behind regenerative agriculture and the ECOcentric land ethic we model at Rushton Woods Preserve and Farm. We’ll explore the parallels of how our yards can also help achieve balance and support ecosystems. Then we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at thousands of seedlings in the greenhouse, which is where the entire growing season begins. After being stuck inside all winter, take some deep breaths among the green plants to fill up on those antidepressant soil microbes!
What is regenerative farming? It is a form of agriculture that harmonizes with natural resources and ecosystem functions—keeping soils and habitats healthy and functional—so that the whole system can continue in a better state. This way of farming can enhance productivity while supporting wildlife conservation, which will become increasingly important as we reach capacity of arable land. Not only does regenerative farming directly protect and even provide habitat but also has the power to mitigate climate change.
ECOcentric Experience is our new environmental education series for adults seeking a deeper understanding of and closer relationship to nature. Through seasonal lectures as well as immersive field experiences, participants study birds and wildlife, regenerative farming, watershed protection, and habitat stewardship.
