Lunch and Learn: Road Salt and Its Impact on Fresh Water

The heavy use of road salt during Pennsylvania winters has a direct impact on the function of freshwater streams. After a storm, as the ice and snow melts, salt applied to walkways, roads and driveways enters our streams and rivers in large quantities. Learn more about how road salt’s effects on freshwater ecosystems and what it means for our region during this free program with guest speaker Dr. John Jackson, senior scientist at Stroud Water Research Center.

Dr. Jackson joins Lauren McGrath, The Trust’s Director of Watershed Protection Program, for a talk about road salt and its effect on our waterways.
